WASHINGTON – Mike Davis, founder and president of the Internet Accountability Project (IAP), today released the following statement on his Twitter suspension following an innocuous tweet defending Will Upton, a Big Tech critic and former Trump administration official. Upton was suspended for comparing CNN’s Brian Stelter to the movie character “The Gimp” from Pulp Fiction.

“Twitter sent me to Twitter jail for 12 hours, starting last night, purportedly for sending a tweet defending Will Upton, a Big Tech critic and former Trump administration official. The real reason that Twitter suspended my account is because I lead high-profile advocacy organizations that are taking on Big Tech monopolists (Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Twitter), desperate and flailing Big Media outlets (like CNN), and their woke cancel-culture nonsense, of which both CNN and Twitter are two of the worst proponents, enablers, and enforcers.

“Unfortunately, Big Tech and Big Media collude to censor everyday Americans with whom they disagree. The Internet Accountability Project is fighting for them to oppose Big Tech abuses.

“The reason that Big Tech has the power to cancel conservatives and other everyday Americans with whom they disagree is because they have too much government-sponsored power. And they have this power through the government’s decision to grant Big Tech antitrust amnesty and Section 230 immunity, both of which must come to an end.”

WASHINGTON – Mike Davis, founder and president of the Internet Accountability Project (IAP), today released the following statement regarding the 21st Century FREE Speech Act introduced by Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) that puts the American people, rather than Big Tech monopolists, in charge of what they can say or hear on social media, today’s public square.

“Adopting the legal approach recently analyzed by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, the 21st Century FREE Speech Act reclaims Americans’ right to free speech on social media – the modern-day public square. Senator Bill Hagerty’s legislation is a thoughtful, commonsense solution that would actually solve many of our problems with Big Tech, by abolishing Section 230 and replacing it with pro-free-speech protections, treating these monopolies like common carriers, and prohibiting political censorship.

“This is more than just a messaging bill or an empty gesture. Senator Hagerty’s legislation finally abolishes and replaces the antiquated Section 230 immunity, which Big Tech uses both as an anticompetitive shield to unfairly protect itself from accountability and a censorship sword to silence Americans with whom Big Tech disagrees. Big Tech monopolists have proven to serve as biased moderators of free speech, and it is long past time for Americans to have reasonable, non-discriminatory access to the modern-day public square. Just as Americans have access to other common carriers like telephone, transportation, and electric services, American consumers must have fair access to Big Tech services.

“The Internet Accountability Project applauds Senator Bill Hagerty for his leadership and encourages other Republicans to follow his lead in order to end Big Tech’s unchecked control over American political debate.”

IAP is a nonprofit conservative advocacy group that holds Big Tech accountable for engaging in egregious business practices like snooping, spying, political bias against conservatives, employee abuses and anticompetitive conduct. Davis previously served as Chief Counsel for Nominations to Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary and led the Senate confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh and a record number of circuit court judges.
The Hawley proposal drew praise from Internet Accountability Project (IAP) Founder and President Mike Davis.

“Senator Hawley’s ‘Trust Busting for The Twenty-First Century Act’ is the type of bold leadership and smart legislation this country so desperately needs,” Davis said in a statement.

“Senator Hawley’s commonsense bill introduces the hard reset Congress must enact to save the free market from abusive trillion-dollar Big Tech monopolists and other giant woke corporations attempting to exert too much power and control over our lives.

“For too long, through antitrust amnesty and Section 230 immunity, Google has been allowed to exert too much influence through its control over the internet. Along with Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter, they continue to censor conservatives, violate our privacy and crush their competition at all costs and without consequence.”

Davis is the former chief counsel to Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) when he was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He’s also a former aide to then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), and law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, when he served on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

WASHINGTON – Mike Davis, founder and president of the Internet Accountability Project (IAP), today released the following statement regarding Senator Josh Hawley’s “trust-busting” plan.

“Senator Hawley’s ‘Trust Busting For The Twenty-First Century Act’ is the type of bold leadership and smart legislation this country so desperately needs. Senator Hawley’s commonsense bill introduces the hard reset Congress must enact to save the free market from abusive trillion-dollar Big Tech monopolists and other giant woke corporations attempting to exert too much power and control over our lives.

“For too long, through antitrust amnesty and Section 230 immunity, Google has been allowed to exert too much influence through its control over the internet. Along with Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter, they continue to censor conservatives, violate our privacy and crush their competition at all costs and without consequence.

“IAP applauds Senator Hawley’s leadership, and we encourage his Republican colleagues to join him in this fight. Words are not enough and silence is unacceptable. The time for action on antitrust is now. Congress must pass strong antitrust laws in order to protect competition and prevent future monopolistic behavior that destroys our competitive free markets.”

More information on Davis and IAP can be found here.
